A Darien music store marked a major holiday for vinyl record collectors on Saturday.
Record Store Day is a promotion for independent shops that has been going strong for 16 years.
Vinyl records are experiencing a revival. They outsold CDs in 2022 for the first time since 1987.
Record Store Day features hundreds of special releases like items long out of print, expanded, and exclusive editions.
It's a major boost for businesses like Johnny's Records.
"It's like the whole month of December wrapped up into one day," said John Konrad, owner of Johnny's Records.
"You really don't know exactly what you're going to get. One thing that's really nice is there's a lot of releases from the 1990s. That's when vinyl was kind of on its way out," said shopper Hunter Lohman.
Staff estimates more than 500 customers had come in by noon with some individual shoppers dropping hundreds of dollars each.
