Darien police post top two tips to prevent holiday car theft
Fliers are posted throughout Darien reminding shoppers of two simple tips that will help keep themselves and their families safe during the holiday season.Holiday shopping is in full swing this time of year and so are car thieves. That is why Darien police are reminding residents to ?turn it off and lock it up.? They say the tips are simple, but drivers are often in a rush and leave their cars running while they do quick errands. Police say thieves wait to see people exiting their cars, leaving behind the tell-tale sign of exhaust, before moving in.Police also remind parents of the dangers of leaving their children in the car while it?s running, no matter how quick the errand. They say there are real risks, such as the child moving the car or someone stealing the car with the child inside. Police also insist it is against the law to leave children under the age of 12 in a vehicle without adult supervision.
