A group gathered in Norwalk Monday to peacefully protest the death of Tyre Nichols and call for change.
A somber and spiritual gathering brought together on the Town Green dozens of residents and officials to protest the brutal death of Nichols.
Nichols was beaten by five Black police officers in Memphis after he was pulled over at a traffic stop. He died three days later.
People said this case shows the need to ensure police officers don't abuse their authority, no matter their race.
"It's honestly about breaking the culture. It's honestly about thinking futuristically. Like I said, 1,176 people last year alone were killed by law enforcement, that is about 100 people a month," said state Rep. Kadeem Roberts.
The five officers were charged earlier this month, along with two Memphis Fire Department EMTs, and a driver, and graphic body camera video of the beating was released Friday.
