The Department of Energy and Environmental Protection is warning New Fairfield residents to be on alert for possibly bear sightings.
The announcement came after several people reported seeing bears. The animals normally tend to come to neighborhoods looking for food.
Experts recommend taking various steps to avoid any confrontations with bears.
They say to eliminate garbage, pet food, fruit trees, birdfeeders or anything else from outside that a bear might look for.
They also say to clean grills after using them and to store grills inside a shed or garage.
Lastly experts advise residents to never intentionally feed bears because they will be accustomed to finding food near the home.
