The mother of a developmentally disabled 2-year-old is rejoicing after her daughter?s prosthetic legs were recovered following a robbery in Milford.
Derby resident Patty Stochmal says her daughter Lauren suffers from Down syndrome and has already had seven major surgeries, one of which included the amputation of her left leg due to complications from a life-threatening infection. Lauren had recently been fitted for a prosthetic that the family hoped would mean a new way of life for their little girl. However, the car containing the legs was stolen from the Connecticut Post Mall parking lot Monday evening.
New Haven police say they were able to track down the vehicle, and later recovered the prosthetics. Patty says Lauren is due to have another surgery on what is left of her amputated leg in August. She says she is hopeful Lauren can being learning to walk after she recovers.
