One of two Norwalk doctors accused of operating a "pill mill," in addition to health care fraud and money laundering, has been detained in Canada.

According to the U.S Attorney's Office, Dr. Ramil Mansourov, of Darien, has been apprehended by the Canada Border Services Agency.

It comes after authorities say Mansourov fled the country last week.

The U.S. Attorney's Office says both Mansourov and his colleague, Dr. Bharat Patel, of Milford, ran a private family medical practice in Norwalk.

Family Health Urgent Care, located on Main Street, now has a sign that reads closed until further notice.

Officials say the pair allegedly provided prescriptions for narcotics like oxycodone and hydrocodone to patients they knew were addicted or to patients they knew had been arrested for distributing or possessing controlled substances.

According to authorities, people that came to the practice called it the 'Candy Shop.'

Authorities also allege Mansourov defrauded the state's Medicaid program of more than $4 million by billing for home visits he never made, billing for nursing home visits he never made, billing for office visits that never happened, and billing for visits he claimed took on place on dates he was actually out of state or out of the country.

The U.S. Attorney's Office says the two also billed Medicaid for the same patient on the same day at two different locations.

Patel was arrested at his home a week ago and appeared in court today for a bond hearing.

No word yet on when Mansourov will be extradited to the U.S.

Both men could face up to 20 years in prison.
