Firefighters battled a six-alarm fire Wednesday morning at an apartment building located at 1270 Gerard Avenue.
Fire officials say the fire began in a third floor apartment, and quickly spread to the fourth, fifth and sixth floors. Firefighters say the fire was tough to battle because there were so many concealed places.
It took nearly four hours to put the flames out. Thirty-one firefighters suffered minor injuries and more than 50 families were left homeless. The Red Cross is helping families with no place to go.
