A new startup from
the founder of ZocDoc may help you find doses of COVID-19 vaccine that would
otherwise have gone to waste.
After verifying
your phone, the website asks a few questions about your age and occupation and
adds you to a national registry. When a clinic reports doses at risk of being
wasted, Dr. B will send a text to eligible patients nearby with an opportunity
to grab the appointment.
Doctors at Yale
New Haven Health say the size of their network has allowed them to use a
similar waitlist system at their vaccination clinics.
State officials
say it's no replacement for signing up through the VAMS portal when your
eligibility date arrives.
They report that
so far, only 10 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been wasted in Connecticut for
lack of a patient to give them to.
