Driver faces manslaughter charge in crash
A driver who was suspected of causing a fatal car crash says he was on his way to turn himself in when he allegedly caused another car accident.
Peter Burdick, 23, of Trumbull, faces a manslaughter charge for a crash in February. Police say he was drunk when his vehicle hit a snowbank, went airborne and struck a car driven by Nancy Keller, of Stratford, at Crown Street and Noble Avenue in Bridgeport. Keller, 53, was killed.
Authorities say Burdick remained at the scene of the accident, but he allegedly told them he wasn't driving the vehicle. No other driver was found and authorities say DNA evidence links Burdick to the car and crash.
According to Burdick, he was en route to turn himself in when police say he rear-ended a vehicle Tuesday. No one was seriously injured in that crash.
Keller's family and relatives thanked police for their work on the case as they mourned Keller. "She had her whole life ahead of her," says Keller's friend Raul Acevedo. "She was a nice person, she really was."
Burdick is being held on $100,000 bond and is due back in court in August.
