The DEEP and the Department of Public Health are advising people to use caution while swimming in water due to the rainfall from Elsa.
The departments advise against swimming during the next 48 hours in the Quinnipiac River and in close proximity to Bridgeport, Hartford, Wallingford, Norwalk, Norwich and the greater New Haven area.
They say these areas have experienced discharges of untreated sewage.
