Empty pews, lack of funds shut down Norwalk church
The 219-year-old First United Methodist Church in Norwalk closed its doors for good Sunday.
Pastor Dennis Winkleblack blames shrinking membership and a lack of finances for the closure. According to Winkleback, the building will be sold and the proceeds will be spread among the city's four other Methodist churches.
The church's congregation is around 40 members, the pastor says. The regulars who attend the West Avenue church say they'll miss the familiar faces of their fellow faithful churchgoers.
