An event entitled "Why is Westport so white?" was held Monday, aimed at sparking a discussion about diversity.
Organizers say Westport is just about 1% Black, and they know that changing that will not be quick and will not be simple. Wilton, Darien and New Canaan all have nearly the same racial makeup.
People gathered in lawn chairs outside the Museum of Contemporary Art and heard speakers talk about various subjects, including the history of the town, slavery, past policies and issues they would like to see changed.
Organizers believe more allowing more apartments is key.
The number of people who attended the event had to be limited due to COVID-19, but it was also streamed online.
