Ex-teacher sentenced to 5 years for sex with student
The former Stamford High School teacher who pleaded guilty to having sex with and supplying drugs to a student was sentenced to five years in prison and 15 years of probation.
Danielle Watkins' attorney says she was sentenced for the charges of sexual assault and risk of injury to a child. Watkins could face another five years behind bars if she violates her probation.
Watkins admitted to having sex with a 17-year-old student at Stamford High School. She accepted a plea deal in December. She was also accused of giving the victim and a friend marijuana.
The 32-year-old mother of two also pleaded guilty Wednesday to threatening one of the victims at a Dunkin' Donuts while she was out on bond. As a result, her original plea deal did not stand.
Watkins will be required to register as a sex offender. She cannot go near or contact the victims until March 2030.
The attorney for the two victims says that there will likely be a civil case filed on their behalf.
Two Stamford High School principals were also charged in October for not reporting the incident. They have since been granted accelerated rehabilitation, but will not be returning to work at the school.
