Residents in Fairfield are supporting local businesses as the new year approaches.
Over 700 special Chamber of Commerce gift cards have been sold to local customers to keep independent merchants afloat.
Harry's Wine and Liquor Market is one of 70 Fairfield shops where customers can use the gift cards. Co-owner Patrick Montelone says they have been selling to people who have scaled down their holiday celebrations this year.
"Instead of selling a case of champagne to one person who is having a big party, we are selling 12 individual bottles to 12 families," he says.
While Harry's welcomes the dollars, Montelone says, "My best advice is use it at a different store…we are up when everybody else is suffering. Small mom-and-pop shops can really use the help right now."
The chamber wants people to remember that the cards are not just for the holidays. They hope the program stays popular all year long.
