Fairfield First Selectman Michael Tetreau is urging residents impacted by May 15's violent storms to prepare information needed for possible reimbursement from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
He says he has some experience dealing with the agency since about 1,000 homes in his area were damaged by Superstorm Sandy in 2012.
"Very important that you notify all your residents about what the cut-off date is so they can do everything they can to get their forms filled out and applications in," he says.
FEMA will be assessing damage from the powerful May storms around the state. Completing the assessment is the next step in submitting a formal request for a disaster declaration.
State officials, including United States Sen. Richard Blumenthal, have been petitioning FEMA to provide recovery funds. Blumenthal says Connecticut has a strong case for federal aid.
Town officials say a formal disaster declaration is expected in August.
