Fairfield native Jim Wolf says he was inspired in the late ‘90s, right out of high school, by his older brother who played with John Mayer.
So he proceeded downstairs at home and began making music. Wolf released "Make You My Lady" in 2012.
"I was so broke and so in debt that I just decided to do basement recordings and, actually, 'Make You My Lady' was the first basement recording that I did."
The song did not get any traction in the United States. But years later, Wolf soon learned that "Make You My Lady" made it all the way to No. 2 on the charts in South Korea, ahead of stars like Taylor Swift.
"I was bartending, my phone started blowing up," he said.
Wolf can't explain his success in Asia, but says music is something everyone can relate to.
"Music is universal. Music transcends cultures and I think that, in a lot of ways, it can help build relationships."
Wolf said he's been picked up on 30 TV shows in South Korea, but hopes at some point his music will catch on here in the U.S.
He is working on new music, after all.
