Officials held a public meeting earlier tonight after a hazardous airborne chemical was found in one Fairfield elementary school.

Osborne Hill parents and staff attended an information session to learn more about the discovery and the risks associated with the chemical polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB). School officials say they uncovered high amounts of the chemical while replacing windows back in April.

Doctors say higher levels of the chemical have been linked to cancers of the kidney, liver and thyroid.

School officials reassured parents and staff that there is nothing to worry about. The school is slated to open August 30 but officials say if that is not possible, it will push back the first day to Sept. 4.
