Fairfield police say a woman has been charged with her second DUI in six weeks after striking and seriously injuring a man Friday night.
According to authorities, Kristen Ostenberg, 34, struck James Scalo, 73, with her vehicle outside a convenience store on the corner of Villa Avenue and Tunxis Hill Road.
Lt. Jim Perez says that the accident is being investigated as a case of drunken driving. Ostenberg was previously arrested for an alleged DUI on Feb. 10. According to Perez, state law permits drivers facing DUI charges to get their licenses back within 24 hours of arrest.
Ostenberg may also face assault charges, pending an investigation.
Scalo, according to his son Jay, works at their family travel and insurance agency on Villa Avenue. According to Jay, his father is alert and talking in the ICU, but is not yet out of the woods.
