A Fairfield community came together Saturday to participate in the second annual Walk for Wishes event, which is sponsored by the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
More than 250 walkers flocked to Penfield Beach Saturday morning with the goal of raising $50,000. Organizers of the Make-A-Wish Foundation estimate that it costs $8,500 on average to grant wishes to children with illnesses.
"These events are so important to us because they really help us," Tara Navara, director of special events, says. "We've never had to deny a wish to a child who's been medically ill and enrolled in the program, and we're so proud of that."
