Friends and family said goodbye to a friend, a son, a companion, a father and a decorated war hero Thursday. Sergeant Richard Ford was a paratrooper who earned the Medal of Honor, a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. He was killed during his third tour of duty in Iraq. At his funeral services, friends and family members read letters and spoke of the man they say died the same way he lived - a hero. Ford?s grandmother says there aren?t many grandparents that can idolize their grandchild the way she looked up to Richard. Ford will be buried on Monday at Arlington National Cemetery, where his family will be given the American flag. They were given the Connecticut state flag during Thursday?s ceremony.
