Family and friends gathered at St. Edward the Confessor Church Tuesday to say goodbye to the New Fairfield woman killed in last week's powerful storm.
Lauren Svendsen, a mother of two, died in last week's powerful storm when a tree fell on top of her car. She died on the scene and her 3-year-old son was taken to the hospital, but was not hurt.
Svendsen, 41, was an art teacher for 13 years at North Salem Middle/High School just over the New York border.
The school district's superintendent released a statement saying in part, "Adored by her students, Lauren passionately taught her students in a way that connected art and personal life."
A GoFundMe campaign was started by Svendsen's family and has already raised more than $23,000.
