The family of a retired Bridgeport police officer who died this week is asking for the public's help to pay for his funeral.
Bridgeport Mayor Joe Ganim called Herbie Mack "a dedicated officer of the department's mounted unit who served his city with pride for decades."
Mack's brother says he passed out in City Hall and lay unattended for too long before help arrived.
He then ended up on life support at Saint Vincent's Medical Center before dying Thursday.
Mack's family says he retired from the police force last year and was recently hired by the city as a guard.
A GoFundMe page has been set up by his family
