A Sussex County family targeted for their political signs supporting Rep. Josh Gottheimer has once again hit by vandals.
The home in Hampton Township was targeted by vandals last weekend and again on Saturday.
According to the congressman's spokesperson, the words "I'm a Jew" and expletives were spray-painted on the road directly outside the family's home.
Last week, the same family saw their “Gottheimer for Congress” sign and their garage door vandalized. They were covered with anti-Semitic images and other messages, including "Libs suck" and "Go to Cali Dems."
"I was sickened to hear the news of this hate crime. No family facing intimidation does so alone," says Rep. Gottheimer. "Sussex County stands together, as a united community, against these horrific crimes, just as America has stood strong and united for centuries in the face of hatred."
Gov. Murphy also reacted to the incident, saying in part, "Any instance of anti-Semitism is abhorrent, but that the same family has been violated again with such depravity is absolutely disgusting. This is beyond a sick game. This is malicious and purposeful."
Both Gov. Murphy and Gottheimer are urging anyone with information to contact police.
Gottheimer's GOP opponent, John McCann, released a statement on Facebook after the first incident.
"The anti-Semitic actions in Sussex County are abhorrent. It is truly unfortunate that this is the second time this happened to the congressman right before an election," says McCann.
After the first vandalism incident, the residents contacted the state police to investigate.
No charges have been filed, and the investigation is ongoing.
