The FBI has named Stamford as the safest city in Connecticut for 2016.
The city credits youth outreach programs, a gun violence task force, and an increase in the number of police officers patrolling the community.
According to Police Chief Jon Fontneau, the department also does programs, such as Coffee with a Cop, to improve police relations in the community.
“When I speak of the work Stamford Police officers do, I have nothing but tremendous pride,” says Fontneau. “It’s a great honor to work these men and women I celebrate them and I celebrate their accomplishments. The Stamford PD is both a family and youth orientated police department. It’s not just words, its actions, its proactive actions, its actions that are committed by our police officers to engage our community on a regular basis.”
The FBI also says Stamford is the safest city in New England.
