A large fire broke out at the new Smyth building under construction in downtown Stamford Friday.

Flames were seen on the rooftop with lots of black smoke.

Officials asked drivers to avoid the area due to police activity Friday afternoon in and around Atlantic Street, Bell Street, Tresser Boulevard and Washington Boulevard.
