Firefighters from several southwestern Connecticut departments fought to save a New Canaan landmark Sunday.The fire on East Avenue in New Canaan ripped through the Cherry Street Pub moments before the restaurant opened. There were no customers in the building at the time, but several workers were getting the restaurant ready for lunch. Fortunately, no one was injured but the building was destroyed. It took firefighters from New Canaan, Norwalk, Wilton, and Vista 45 minutes to put out the flames. They say the fire started in the kitchen ductwork and an investigation is underway.
