A pile of burnt wood is all that is left of a barn in Westport after it was struck by lightning during Thursday night?s storm.
A Westport Fire Department official says that a tree located next to the barn on Sturges Hollow Road was the first struck by lightning. He says the lightning jumped from the tree to the barn, and most likely started a fire in the barns attic.
According to the fire department, lightning also started a fire in a garage on Riverside Avenue. The homeowner was able to extinguish that blaze with a garden hose.
