A Northville firefighter was honored by New Milford police on Friday for helping an officer who had been attacked.
Police responded on July 31 to a disturbance between a juvenile and an adult male in firefighter Glenn Miller's neighborhood on Stone Tent Road.
During an altercation, the responding officer was attacked. Police say Matthew Gambone tried to grab the officer's gun, causing a gunshot to be fired.
Upon hearing the gunshot, Miller, who was off duty and inside his home, came out and ran toward the officer.
Miller assisted the officer with arresting Gambone.
Gambone's charges included risk of injury to a child, reckless endangerment and assault on a police officer.
No one was injured by the gunshot.
