Thursday marked the first day of summer and residents throughout southwestern Connecticut were in full anticipation of summer season.
Students celebrated the last day of school in many parts of the area. They said they were excited for summer because they get to stay up late and play outside.
"My favorite thing about the summer is relaxing, kids not being too over-scheduled and going to the beach and just having fun,? said Sarah Donovan, of Orange.
Even though kids may be involved in fewer activities during the summer, many parents already have the next few months planned.
"We're going to California next week. My kids go to sleep away camp and then we take a family vacation to Wild Woods, New Jersey,? said Chris Centore.
Others took advantage of the first day of summer by going to the beach. Beachgoers said they were looking forward to finally getting some sun after a long winter.
