Hundreds of people will pay homage to fallen heroes and their families this Memorial Day weekend.
The annual placing of the flags will be held this weekend at the Calverton National Ceremony and the Long Island National Cemetery in Pinelawn.
Volunteers will place flags at nearly 500,000 graves at the two cemeteries.
Hundreds of American soldiers also put down flags at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia Thursday to honor the fallen.
Overall, 230,000 headstones are now dressed in red, white and blue.
