The Fairfield Health Department is holding two flu clinics to kick off the beginning of flu season.

The clinics are being held today and Wednesday at the Bigelow Center for Senior Activities.

Officials say there has been a bad flu season in Australia which may be a good indicator that we're going to have a bad one in the U.S.

Registered Nurse Mary Ellen Dragicevich with the Fairfield Health Department says there have been a few cases of the flu already across the state.

"It takes two weeks for your immunity to build up against the flu. So if you get it in October before we've had too much flu in the community, you'd be protected throughout the season," Dragicevich says.

Shots are $30 without insurance.

The center will be open until 7 p.m. Tuesday and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday.
