Future uncertain for Sports Authority stores
The future of Sports Authority stores across the country is in doubt Monday.
The company previously said it would close some stores, including one in Bridgeport, but now says others may join the list in the future.
The company filed for bankruptcy in March and announced plans to reorganize and close 140 stores, but not its Norwalk location.
Bill Martin, a coach at New Canaan High School, says Sports Authority works with the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference to give local athletes coupons there.
"They can come here and purchase the things they need for the sport, and at the same time get a discount on them," he says.
A spokesperson said Monday that reorganization is no longer possible and the company will look to sell the business, which may mean more closings.
