A garden was dedicated Thursday afternoon at Jonathan Law High School in Milford in memory of Maren Sanchez.
More than 100 people, including students, school officials and Sanchez's family, attended the dedication ceremony. The service featured a musical performance from one of Sanchez's friends.
The garden contains purple flowers and a purple wind chime, in honor of Sanchez's favorite color. The garden also has two benches with memorial plaques.
Sanchez was fatally stabbed at the school last April. Police say fellow student Christopher Plaskon killed her after she apparently turned down his invitation to junior prom.
The garden was paid for by donations from community members and local businesses. School officials say the garden overlooks the softball field because Sanchez was the manager for the softball team.
