16ds agoGov. Ned Lamont and Education Commissioner Miguel Cardona were in Winsted Tuesday to speak about reopening schools safely.
The superintendent of Winchester Public Schools says 76% of students are returning for in-person learning – 22% are opting for temporary distance learning.
Only 2% will be fully home-schooled.
Administrators say they started working on their reopening plan back in May. Gov. Lamont says it’s important to get kids back in school as long as the metrics support it.
"We've kept our infection rate one of the lowest in the country. And I think we've earned the right, our kids have earned the right to be able to go into a classroom and see their friends, and be with a teacher and have real in-classroom education,” said Gov. Lamont.
The first day of school for the Winchester district is set for Aug. 31.
