Gov. Dannel Malloy is expected to sign the bill today that would ban the death penalty in Connecticut.
The bill passed in the House yesterday after already making it through the Senate.
The bill would replace the death penalty with a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of release.
It would not affect the sentences of the 11 inmates in Connecticut already on death row.
