A Connecticut middle-schooler hopes to continue her work helping child cancer patients when she begins sixth grade at her new school.

Grace Targonski, 11, has spent the past few months collecting hats and raising money for children with cancer. She says she was inspired to help after seeing her aunt battle cancer in 2013.

When News 12 Connecticut met with Grace at her fifth-grade graduation back in June, she had already collected more than 100 hats for a Connecticut children's hospital. Gov. Dannel Malloy met with Grace over the summer and he signed a proclamation in late July, acknowledging September as National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

When she begins school in Stamford Tuesday, Grace says she wants to talk to her principal about continuing her fundraising work at school. She will also be in New York City Tuesday night for the Go Gold ceremony in recognition of National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
