Reaction from political pundits and some Connecticut voters after a debate between U.S. Senator Joe Lieberman (D-CT) and challenger Ned Lamont indicates Lamont may come out on top in the primary.
Gary Rose, with the Department of Government and Politics at Sacred Heart University, says Lamont emerged from Thursday?s debate as the voice of change and the embodiment of youth for state Democrats. The Greenwich millionaire, who wants American troops pulled out of Iraq and Afghanistan, questioned Lieberman?s stay-the-course stance. Lieberman countered that as a three-term senator, he is qualified to represent the people of Connecticut.
Although some voters say they are warming up to Lamont, others say the debate did little to sway their belief in Lieberman. The primary is August 8.
