Neighbors, friends and politicians flocked together Monday at Stickland Brook Park, where a living memorial honors a Connecticut man, George Smith, who disappeared on a honeymoon cruise one year ago this week.
George Smith?s mother, Maureen, was surrounded by neighbors and friends who gathered to remember the man she described as ?a very, very humble person.? Family friend Anne Semmes says she wanted to plant a tree in Smith?s honor to keep his spirit alive and ?do something positive? for his friends and family.
Congressman Chris Shays (R-4th District) attended the memorial ceremony and says that Smith?s death has exposed dangers in the cruise industry, which he said has problems that are evident and ?ultimately will be dealt with.?Related Information: Family of missing Greenwich honeymooner files lawsuit
