Grenade found at Stamford waste transfer station
Stamford's transfer station is back open after a grenade was found in a pile of trash.
Supervisors say it was discovered shortly before 9 a.m. while crews were sorting the pile.
They say they immediately shut the station down, evacuated the area, and waited for police.
Supervisors say the explosive was found in a sock with old papers from the 40s, and was likely dumped by a private company.
The Stamford bomb squad reportedly took the grenade away, and the business was able to reopen shortly before 10 a.m.
