The Newtown chapter of the group Moms Demand Action met Monday to further their gun control efforts in response to last week's school shooting in Parkland, Florida.
The group has mobilized across the country to advocate for gun control since the 2012 mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School.
Members say the Newtown community felt so much love and support after Sandy Hook, when they received cards from around the world. And now, they're paying it forward.
Called "Love and Action for Parkland," Monday's event included three main objectives: discussing how to prevent gun violence, writing cards of solidarity for the Parkland community and writing thank you notes for local lawmakers who are outspoken in their stances for gun control.
Group members say they wanted to let the Parkland community know from a firsthand perspective that while things may not get easier, they will get better. They say they're constantly working toward stronger gun laws nationwide, including mandatory background checks and bans on bump stock devices.
