A group has raised thousands of dollars to save Bridgeport's popular free concert series.

Thousands have packed the "Downtown Thursdays" concert series at McLevy Green. Last year, Downtown Thursdays even hosted local favorite Javier Colon, winner of NBC's "The Voice."
The city's new mayoral administration made deep cuts to the concert series and other outdoor events. Several corporate contributors also cut donations.
The group iLuvBpt stepped in to take over the concert series after it lost its $90,000 budget. So far, $15,000 in donations have been collected.

Natalie Pryce, of iLuvBpt, says there will be at least four concerts and that the group is working on a fifth.

"It was easy to say, 'Oh, it's not happening,' and blame it on something," says Pryce. "It's harder to take it and pick it up and say, 'We're going to be the solution.'"

This year's concerts start on July 21. The group is still seeking additional donations.
