The candidates running for governor in Connecticut will be out campaigning for votes this holiday weekend.

Democrat Ned Lamont and Republican Bob Stefanowski have already started airing ads attacking each other on key issues.

One ad accuses Lamont of wanting to expand the property tax, possibly with a statewide tax on cars.

In response to the ad, Lamont now says he does not want to replace local car taxes with a statewide one.

"Takes words totally out of context,” Lamont says. “I think people know that I am the candidate that's going to cut property tax.”

According to a new poll, Lamont is currently leading the race by nine points. However, Stefanowski's campaign says their internal polls show the race is much tighter.

“You've got Ned Lamont, on tape, saying he's going to raise taxes,” Stefanowski says. “I'm going to try like heck to get rid of the income tax, but I guarantee you it's going to go down."

Both candidates will be in Newtown on Monday for the Labor Day parade.
