Local health officials are warning the public to expect more West Nile virus cases, especially in light of this season's unprecedented national numbers. Doctors say people with compromised immune systems are most at risk of complications and death. They also say anyone outdoors should cover up at dusk, get rid of standing water and use bug repellent with DEET. Four cases have been reported in Connecticut this year, with two in Stamford, one in Bridgeport and one in New Haven.
