The undocumented immigrant who spoke out about harassment and immigration fraud at President Donald Trump's National Golf Club was told her asylum hearing scheduled for this morning was adjourned.
Viki Morales worked at Trump National in Bedminster for the past five years, and is among several housekeepers speaking out about harassment and immigration fraud at the golf course.
Morales did come forward with allegations of mistreatment, however, to be clear, the asylum hearing was scheduled long before that issue came to light.
Morales’ attorney, Anibal Romero, says the allegations should now play a part in her gaining asylum and eventually becoming a U.S. citizen because she would be in danger if forced to return to her home country of Guatemala.
"Her family was slaughtered in Guatemala and that's why we feel that she has an extremely good asylum case,” says Romero. “She faces great danger, her family, if she returns to Guatemala. The asylum office has asked us to adjourn the case. I can't get into details why it was adjourned. They will send us a letter in the mail letting us know when our next hearing is."
The scheduled hearing this morning was not open to the public.
Romero says Morales’ family was slaughtered by gang members in Guatemala, and the recent publicity concerning the Trump National Golf Club story puts her in the spotlight and in danger if she is forced to return.
The State Attorney General's Office is apparently looking into the claims of mistreatment, including fraudulent work permits and threats to report workers to federal authorities at Trump National.
