Masuk High School is using body cameras to ensure student safety.
The Monroe-based school is located just a few miles from where the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School took place almost six years ago.
"Anything can happen anywhere--I think Connecticut is more aware of that than anybody," says Capt. Keith White of the Monroe Police Department. "You have to be alert to what's going on in the world today and be prepared for it."
The Monroe Police Department received a grant for body cameras last year. Now there is a school resource officer equipped with a body camera at all times at the high school.
Parents say they like the idea of having an extra set of eyes on their children.
"I think it's a great idea," says Cara Logan. "I think whatever we can do to help protect the kids and keep them safe is our responsibility."
Police say there have been no major incidents at the high school in the last year but parents agree that it's good to be prepared.
