Independent investigation into racial social media messages clears Naugatuck police chief
An independent investigation into racial social media messages from the Naugatuck police chief's daughter has cleared his name.
Officials say that since the messages were sent by Police Chief Steven Hunt's daughter, and not himself, he did not violate any rules.
The messages from two years ago resurfaced in January. Hunt and his wife said in a statement, "No parent wishes their child to be the primary actor in a 'teachable moment,' but there are lessons to be learned. In the age of social media, our words and actions can be scrutinized for all to see. Hurtful and racist comments will live long after they are made."
