Inspirational Greenwich High School student Nicole Graham defies odds
Greenwich High School will soon lose an inspirational student and athlete when she heads off to college after graduation.
Nicole Graham is a three-sport athlete and captain of the Greenwich girls lacrosse team with a bright future ahead of her at Dartmouth College. But, Graham's road to success wasn't an easy one .
In 2012, Graham learned she was diagnosed with leukemia. After she underwent intensive chemotherapy sessions and multiple blood transfusions, she felt terribly ill and collapsed.
Grahams parents say Nicole was admitted to Yale-New Haven Hospital with septic shock and was placed in a medically induced coma for two weeks. Graham also suffered strokes on both sides of her brain, and when she finally came out of her coma, she was paralyzed.
Graham's mother began worrying that her daughter would never pull through. But after months of pain and suffering, Nicole started to make a remarkable recovery.
Nicole is now in remission and realizes that she has reached something far greater than any victory she could have on the field and takes nothing for granted anymore.
Nicole also travels throughout southwestern Connecticut talking about her inspirational recovery. Her story will be featured on ESPN this summer as part of its E-60 Series.
