An insurance company is trying to avoid paying out a claim following the Christmas Day fire that killed three girls and their grandparents in Stamford.
Utica First Insurance is claiming that the home's contractor, Michael Borcina, repeatedly lied to the insurer.
Borcina was renovating the home on Shippan Point for his girlfriend, Madonna Badger, when the fire broke out on Christmas morning.
Badger's three daughters and her parents were killed.
Firefighters say the fire was caused by burning fireplace ashes Borcina improperly discarded.
The insurance company claims in a lawsuit that Borcina's company, Tiberias Construction, Inc., misled them several times since 2007 about the number of employees and the type of work it did.
The company reportedly says if Borcina had told the truth, it would not have insured him.
