Kratom linked to salmonella infections in 20 states
An outbreak of 28 salmonella infections in 20 states has now been linked to Kratom products.
The leaves of the Kratom plant are native to Malaysia and known for an opiate-like effect.
It can be used in tea, but is also chewed, smoked or taken in capsule form.
No cases have been reported in Connecticut, but nearby states such as Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and New York have all reported a case.
