Late News 12 Connecticut Sports Director Bill Gonillo was honored by the Bridgeport Bluefish organization Sunday.
Gonillo passed away in 2007 of diabetes-related complications. His father threw out the first pitch in his honor.
The day was one of mixed feelings. Those who knew Gonillo smiled as they remembered his humor, but are still saddened by the loss.
"It's bittersweet because Bill's not here," said Bluefish CEO Mary Jane Foster.
Gonillo covered sports for News 12 Connecticut for 12 years, but he had spent years on the local beat before coming to the station.
A portion of the game's ticket sales went to the American Diabetes Association and Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
